Partners from our Papillons Consortium took part in the 5th Edition of the International Conference MICRO 2024: Plastic pollution from macro to nano, which was held in Lanzarote from 23 to 27 September. The conference aims to gather the growing community of researchers and policy-makers concerned about the challenge of micro- and nano-plastic pollution in order to facilitate open access to emerging and ongoing research on the matter, identify current research frontiers and new challenges and contribute a collaborative effort to the scientific community.
PAPILLONS researchers played an active role by chairing several sessions and presenting their work:
– Rachel Hurley presented her work on Microplastic fate in soil environments: Drivers of the vertical transport of mulching film fragments https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/559359/document;
– Laura Julia Zantis held a talk about the Quantitative uptake of nanoplastics with different physico-chemical properties in lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and transfer to snails (Cantareus aspersus) https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/558422/document;
– Venla Forsell delivered a presentation on the Impacts of conventional and biodegradable microplastics on the earthworm Eisenia andrei https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/559482/document
– Paula Redondo-Hasselerharm explored the Long-term effects of conventional and biodegradable microplastics from mulch on freshwater communities https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/548486/document
– Anita Jemec Kokalj and @Sara Novak had two posters respectively on High-school students’ knowledge about and attitudes towards the use of conventional plastics and bioplastics (https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/559634/document) and Europium-doped polystyrene nanoplastics in a model invertebrate organism https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/559698/document.
