On September 12th, 2023, MINAGRIS and PAPILLONS research projects organised a joint stakeholder workshop co-hosted under the broader AGRIFOODPLAST Conference.
The first edition of AGRIFOODPLAST conference on micro- and nano-plastics in the agri-food chains was organised by Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and it took place in Piacenza from the 10th to the 12th of September 2023. The conference gathered together several keynote speakers from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), academia representatives, etc. The all covered sessions and workshops on micro- and nano-plastics, including their fate and modelling in terrestrial environments, their impact on soil functions, exposure assessment in food, their toxicological and ecotoxicological effects in the agri-food chain, the available remediation technologies and a One-Health approach for assessing associated risks.
PAPILLONS and MINAGRIS projects are funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Programme for research & innovation with the aim to deepen our knowledge and understanding on the impact of plastic debris in agricultural soils. Given the overlap between the scientific research and interested stakeholders in the process, since the beginning, the two projects have mutually agreed on fostering a close collaboration to amplify each other’s results and resonance across targeted stakeholders. Thanks to this fruitful collaboration, both projects constantly collaborate in organising meeting, workshops and events aiming at presenting some preliminary findings from both sides.
