PAPILLONS and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have jointly decided to contact all agricultural experts and interested stakeholders to share their insights, perspectives developed in their professional roles and invaluable knowledge to participate in the ‘International Survey on Agricultural Plastics’ Perspectives and Knowledge Gaps’.
The aim of the survey is to recognise experts’ opinions on needs, challenges and relevant solutions in the rapidly transforming agriculture sector, advancing research and knowledge on how society sees and judges the expansion of plastic use in agriculture, and, thus, to contribute to the international governance effort of formulating a code of conduct and policy options for achieving zero plastic pollution in agriculture.
The results of the survey will be shared with FAO to inform the work of the upcoming Voluntary Code of Conduct on the sustainable use of plastics in agriculture, especially in relation to Council recommendation for FAO to undertake further scientific and evidence-based assessments related to the distribution, benefits, trade-offs and risks of plastics for agricultural use and their alternatives, and to address knowledge gaps on plastics in agriculture.
